Welcome to Caramel’s second journal which celebrates the magic, wonder and anticipation of Christmas from around the world. First up is textiles designer and former dancer, Olya Thompson who whisks us off to a dreamy winterscape in Moscow. Few women weave an arresting combination of designer and ethnic vintage pieces together with such deftness. For Caramel, she shares an insight into her Russian Christmas, one that includes Kolyadki, or Russian carolling, the Nutcracker she recreates at home every year and a Christmas day feast of roast duck, apples from her garden and a Russian version of kimchi. Skye McAlpine, the feted food writer and Sunday Times columnist celebrates a Venetian Christmas, one that is blanketed in thick fog and comes complete with coloured Murano baubles, panettone cake unlike anything you have ever tasted, the gloopiest hot chocolate and the adventure of hauling your Christmas tree over several bridges. The talented French illustrator, Chloé Fleury has recreated the magic and retro wonder of our Notting Hill Caramel store in a miniature paper version that she has brought to life in our special Christmas animation.
