“I wanted to explore the idea of special clothes that were handed down generations,” explains Eva Karayiannis, Caramel’s founder. “Often these were the only pieces that families owned and so they really celebrated and went to town on them.”

A rich anthology of (intentionally mis-matched) textures dominates the collection: ruffle trims edge pinafore dresses made from spriggy floral prints while polka dots adorn chiffon or silk georgette blouses. Caramel’s unflinching way with colour is visible in a mustard jacquard flocking dress or the vividness of a sky blue shirt.

The robustness of tweeds and tartans or chunky Fair Isle knits creates a raw antidote and tempers romantic flourishes. So too does the strictness of traditional, tailored wool overcoats with thick pile, black velvet collars. As always, it is a collection that is steeped in timeless design but also one that plays to a winter of earthy colours and the magic of story-telling.

At the core of Caramel is an un inching way with retro inspired kaleidoscopic prints and tonally mis-match fabrics. Eva Karayiannis, Caramel’s founder continues to explore the mash-up of different materials; raincoat fabric for example is used on a pair of dungarees to produce a collection that is as modern and sophisticated as it is relevant.
