Named Caramel because Eva Karayiannis, its founder who created the label in 1999 thought that like the brand, caramel was both sweet, strong and sometimes addictive. “I knew the minute I opened my shop that I had created something new that people reacted to and it gave me the strength and the encouragement to develop and grow my brand.”
For Eva was trying to imbue her clothes with the design and quality that childrenswear up until that point lacked. Caramel became the go-to label for clothes that were not traditional, saccharine or stiff. “I treated it in the way you might womenswear, that is to use amazing fabrics and stop the taboo of colour and fabric.” Nearly twenty years on, her design vision has spawned a growing lifestyle brand which includes womenswear and homewares collections.
