Caramel was founded by Eva Karayiannis in 1999 and is a British brand which creates luxury, modern and understated womenswear, homewares and childrenswear. Eva is a designer with immense passion and a strong vision who set out to challenge outdated perceptions of childrenswear. As a child she had always been drawn to children’s clothes. “I always loved their proportions and details.” Today her idiosyncratic vision has spawned a burgeoning life style brand with 10 stores worldwide including Tokyo and New York and over 100 independent retailers. In 2016, both womenswear and homewares collection was added to the label.
Caramel womenswear is the much anticipated collection for women who have hankered after the label’s unflinching way with vintage inspired silhouettes and a colour palette in unexpected combinations.
“I never have felt comfortable with the ethics of throwaway fashion,” says Eva. “I also felt there was a gap between the high street and expensive, high-end fashion. “ I felt that many women were looking for easy to wear pieces that could be styled up or down.”
At the heart of Caramel is a love for detail and an enormous emphasis on the right sort of lining, the cut, the fit and even which buttons might be used on a sleeve cuff; every detail is very carefully considered.
