There’s a strong creative process which takes place in the Caramel atelier on London’s King’s Road. Collections often evolve from a print design or perhaps a pattern on knitwear. It’s a rich collection which includes a lot of textures or an idiosyncratic colour palette.
This design ethos extends from homeware to childrenswear and womenswear.
Caramel was founded by Eva Karayiannis, a former lawyer in 1999. It was originally conceived to challenge the limited perceptions of traditional childrenswear. Soon Caramel became the
go-to label for style aficionados who were looking for clothes that were not stiff or saccharine and offered instead a modern, stylish alternative. It was at the vanguard of a wave of childrenswear labels that soon followed suit.
Today Caramel’s archetypal childrenswear with a predilection for bold, confident prints and distinctive colourways is found all over the world in Caramel’s stores in fashion capitals which include New York and Tokyo as well as online. At the heart of Caramel is a love for detail and an enormous emphasis on the right sort of lining, the cut, the fit and even which buttons are used are all very carefully considered.
