From the outset, Eva Karayiannis, Caramel’s founder and creative director was determined to push the boundaries. She felt very passionate about creating something which didn’t already exist. For Eva had observed that up until that point, children had to wear mass-produced clothes, or ritzy glitzy garments which were usually impractical or anachronistic or both- none of which is what childhood is really about.
The strength of the brand is a focus on fit, relaxed silhouette and the sense of effortlessness it exudes. “There’s a sense of timelessness to our design,” explains Eva, “ there’s no expiry date whatever else might be happening in fashion.” Fusing its idiosyncratic colour palette with geometric print or ditsy florals, each season Eva creates items that become much loved wardrobe staples which reference retro details and vintage inspired clothing shapes.
