Each season Eva Karayiannis, Caramel’s founder and creative director confidently fuses geometric prints with earthier tones and textures which skim rather than hug the body. It’s a design ethos which is prevalent in the Caramel womenswear collection which was launched in 2016 and satiates our appetite for 24/7 dressing.
Eva created womenswear because she didn’t like the ethics of throwaway fashion and felt there was a gap between the high street and expensive, high-end fashion. As with her childrenswear, from the outset she wanted to create something different, which didn’t’ already exist. “No one needs hundreds of clothes in their wardrobe- and yet I felt that many women were looking for easy to wear pieces that could be styled up or down” explains Eva.
The collections are conceived in the atelier on the King’s Road, a hive of design activity. At Caramel there is a considered design process which starts from print design or perhaps a detail on an item or a pattern of knitwear. Eva and her design team work to create a collection that is rich in textures and harmonise together to create a unified statement that extends from a burgeoning offering of babies, childrenswear, homewares and womenswear and is available to buy in Tokyo, New York, London or any one of over 100 independent retailers worldwide.
