Spring Summer’ 18

The sepia tones of a faded photograph evocative of a bygone childhood might have been the starting point for this 30s’s inspired collection of childrenswear.

The primness and formality of previous decades are lightly referenced and artfully combined with Caramel’s predilection for an off-beat, muted colour palette. Visible in verbena deck-chair stripe jackets, peach retro graphic check blazers or an exquisite orange tweed, carefully sourced from a 19th century Italian mill.  Button down ditsy print or regatta inspired dresses with a drop waist and a loose Peter Pan collar also play to a summer filled with nostalgia and whimsy.

Stark, simple and uncomplicated shapes presage an understated elegance that is raw and natural, suggestive of lazy, sun-soaked days foraging in the woods or idly whiling away an afternoon boating.

At the core of Caramel is an unflinching way with retro inspired kaleidoscopic prints and tonally mis-match fabrics. Eva Karayiannis, Caramel’s founder continues to explore the mash-up of different materials; raincoat fabric for example is used on a pair of dungarees to produce a collection that is as modern and sophisticated as it is relevant.
