First Look at SS17

A faded red chinoiserie print on the back of a vintage dressing gown was the starting point for a 60’s inspired Spring/ Summer 17 collection. The romance of oriental blooms on smock tops and loose cotton dresses are juxtaposed against the strict silhouettes of utilitarian Japanese work wear – deep V jackets with kimono style belting or smock front, buttoned up tops in navy or sherbet lemon. Otherwise, oversize, slouchy jumpsuits are worn over linen mix, red stripe t-shirts.

At the core of Caramel is an unflinching way with colour and unique prints. Tops and trousers which recall the scout uniforms of a forgotten youth have been produced in cotton ticking or canvas checks.

These contrast with the softness and gaiety of ditsy floral prints or colourful, vintage looking dashes on organza blouses. Elsewhere a deft layering of hand-painted print on print adds a sophisticated, original take on an ever-expanding range of party wear produced in Caramel’s intentionally mis-matched, off-beat colour palette.
