Behind the scenes at the atelier
Housed in a building which dates back to 1908, the Caramel atelier on London’s King’s Road is a hive of activity. It is where Caramel’s bi-annual womenswear, childrenswear, baby and homeware collections are conceived during buzzy design meetings where everyone comes to the table with ideas.
There is a strong creative process in the Caramel atelier which starts from print design, or perhaps a pattern on knitwear. Much like the classic period features of the building – the central staircase with a worn in patina, high ceilings and spacious proportions – there is a sense of timelessness to Caramel design, no matter whatever else might be happening in fashion.
